About us

The Spiritual Episcopal Church, a national ecclesiastical corporation, was established May 5, 1941. The National offices and the Mother Church are located in Eaton Rapids. Founder John Bunker and his wife Anna were blessed with a baby girl named Eva who suddenly died at age 11 of acute nephritis. John and Anna were devastated. John heard of spirit communication and wanted proof there was a way to communicate with his deceased daughter. He contacted a Spiritualist medium in Indiana and received a message from his little girl. That message contained absolute proof it was from Eva. He was full of enthusiasm and excitement for Spiritualism. He formed a local group in Eaton Rapids to study Spiritualism. Rev. Bunker then formed The Spiritualist Episcopal Church and was pastor of the church for many years. He became a great medium developing mental mediumship and producing physical phenomena. He is best known for apport mediumship and trumpet mediumship. Rev. Bunker is also noted for direct voice trance and for his healing abilities. He went on to do great service for the Spiritualist movement and performed many humanitarian works. The Spiritual Episcopal Church is still dedicated to carrying out his legacy.

A Science, Philosophy and Religion

Spiritualism is a religion based on continuous spiritual revelation and it is entirely without limitations.

This Church seeks to provide a religion  which can reveal an individual's highest possible conception of God and the universe.

Spiritualism seeks to comfort the bereaved by providing reassurance that departed ones still live. It also helps man achieve the highest good as he continues his journey in everyday life.

When we become quiet and still we become in tune with our higher selves, Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides and others that lead us to the light of wisdom.

Our beloved Rev. John Bunker wanted a different type of Spiritualism with added emphasis on religious and ritualistic aspects.

He worked closely with Spirit and our other founding fathers to give us our Oracle and the precious Seven Precepts of truth. The Oracle is an emblem of esoteric significance and is displayed in all Spiritual Episcopal Churches.

The Seven Precepts

I       Deity - The Lord is Almighty God

II      Worship - Thou Shalt Worship the Lord Thy God

III     Universe - There is a Natural World, and There is a Spiritual World

IV     Divine Law - Divine Law is Holy in the Universe an All its Elements

V      Immortality - The Gift of God to All Men is Eternal Life

VI     Communion - Man in the Natural World and Man in the Spiritual World can Communicate One with the Other

VII    Progression - The Spirit of Man Develops in the Spirit Spheres and Progresses Throughout Eternity
